Have a look at some of the exciting things we will learn in Grade 4:
 

French

  • The students will be introduced to French in grade 4. The primary focus is on listening and speaking.
     

  • Students will engage in themes including friends and family, animals, food, sports and school.

 

Social Studies

  • The social studies program provides insight into the way people live in communities around the world.

            Communities include:

1.      Logy Bay (Canada)

2.      Nain (Canada)

3.      Blue Gums (Australia)

4.      Sorfjourd (Norway)

 

Religious Education

  • The program is designed to enable and encourage students to grow religiously and become contributing members of society. They gain an appreciation of their own beliefs and values while learning about the beliefs and values of others.

 

Science

  • Students are actively involved in observing, measuring, predicting, classifying, collecting, testing and reporting data.

            Topics include:

1.      Habitats

2.      Sound

3.      Light

4.      Rocks and Erosion

 

Health

  • The health program helps students develop strategies to promote well being.

 

Art

  • Students are exposed to the basic elements of art (line, shape, form, space, texture, colour, value) and the principle of art (balance, variety, rhythm, repetition and pattern, movement, proportion, unity).

 

Math

  • Students will be learning four content strands:

1.      Number Concepts/ Number and Relationship Operations.

2.      Patterns and Relations

3.      Shape and Space

4.      Data Management and Probability.

 

Language

  • Students will be involved in many speaking, listening, reading and writing activities throughout the language arts program.

Dear Grade Four Parents/Guardians,

To prepare your child for grade four, the following is a list of school supplies for September 2009.

1.                  Pencils - pkg. of 10 HB (Please ensure they are dark leads and sharpened)

2.                  One red pen

3.                  Two highlighters - different colors

4.                  Two fine tip black markers

5.                  One pkg. colored leads  (slim type)

6.                  White erasers

7.                  One pencil sharpener with shavings holder attached

8.                  One 30 cm ruler - no flexible rulers please

9.                  One large glue stick

10.             One pair of medium sized scissors

11.             One small pencil case

12.             Duo-tang folders with side pockets (These have the three silver tangs AND the side pockets. - Side pockets are for organizing papers). Please attempt to get the following colors:

­                     2 Blue (Math)

­                     2 Green (Language Arts - CAMET)

­                     2 Purple (Language Arts - Writing)

­                     2 Yellow (French)

­                     2 Grey (Social Studies)

­                     2 Red (Science)
